“Spartan Sweethearts” Dean Castaldo ’12 and Emilie Peterson Castaldo ’10 have announced a planned gift to their alma mater will support the UNCG General Scholarship Fund and the Military and Veterans Alumni Fund.
UNCG alumnus John Bain and his late wife, Anita, recognized higher education as the key to success in life. Now John is honoring Anita’s memory by helping ensure Spartans will succeed for generations to come through the Anita and John Bain Athletic Endowment Scholarship and the Anita and John Bain Endowed Scholarship.
Imagine a world without music! For Ruth Heyd ’99 and Stephanie Frazier, that would be unthinkable. They are proud to establish the Ruth Darling Heyd ’99 and Stephanie Frazier Scholarship Endowment in Collaborative Piano at UNCG’s School of Music with a $600,000 planned gift. It is their hope the scholarship will inspire future students to major in this area.
“The more we change, the more we have to learn,” says Claudia Kadis ’65. Her new gift will establish the Dylan Rose Kadis and Eloise Hall Kadis Distinguished Professorship in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and will represent the bulk of an expected $1 million investment in UNC Greensboro’s WGSS program.
The Seeker Rescue Fund at UNC Greensboro will provide relief to students whose education may be at risk due to a short-term lack of resources. Susan Seeker Jones ’78 and Jim Jones Jr. hope that their $125,000 gift will inspire others to support UNCG’s scholars.
Entrepreneurs Sherry and Tony Barretta recognize education as the key to their career success. They established the Sherry and Tony Barretta Scholarship Endowment to honor the memory of Sherry’s mother, Vernie L. Kling, for her lifelong commitment to education and for making the sacrifices necessary for Sherry and her sister, Vickie Kling Thompson ’66, to obtain degrees from UNCG.
Faculty at UNCG’s School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) will receive additional support for research thanks to a planned gift from Judy Penny ’70, ’74 MA, ’89 PhD.
The gift will establish the Penny Family Faculty First Endowment and advance HHS faculty research, much of which is conducted in partnership with community members and stakeholders.
With two degrees in history – a bachelor’s from Woman’s College and a master’s from UNC Greensboro – Gayle Hicks Fripp ’63, ’69 MA became one of the most impactful historians in Guilford County.
Now, her impact in the field is assured for perpetuity.
The Hodges family has been a great supporter of UNCG’s University Libraries for many decades. Now, Luther Hodges Jr. further supports UNCG’s Light the Way campaign with a new gift of $750,000, bringing his total giving in this campaign to $1 million.
