On January 17, 1981, nine phenomenal women formed the Nu Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the first Black Greek organization chartered at UNC Greensboro.
In honor of Nu Rho’s 35th anniversary in 2016, 62 alumnae-sisters established the Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship Endowment. Named the “Pearls of Promise” to represent AKA’s 20 pearls, the scholarship endowment provides a legacy to recognize and encourage values-based leadership in future generations of Sisters, as well as a permanent resource and ongoing philanthropic opportunity for AKA alumnae to express gratitude for what the Sisterhood has meant in their lives at UNCG and beyond.
The scholarship supports undergraduate student members of the sorority in good academic standing who possess strong leadership skills and exemplify AKA’s core values of sisterhood, scholarship, and service.
