Alejandra Merheb joins UNCG March 11.

Alejandra Merheb will be Executive Director of Alumni Engagement and Advancement Communications. She will lead the newly combined teams of Alumni Engagement and Advancement Communications, which as a unified department will be responsible for:

• Building alumni relationships

• Working with the Alumni Leadership Board

• Elevating UNCG’s alumni message, particularly through digital channels

• Overarching execution of Advancement’s annual giving program.

“Alejandra Merheb has more than 15 years of experience in the higher education alumni engagement space,” says Beth Fischer, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement. “She joins us from the Texas State Alumni Association, where she served as the AVP of Alumni Relations. Previous experience includes progressively responsible roles at Rice University and at Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to that, she worked in advertising and marketing.”

Merheb graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor of science degree in biomedical science and a minor in business administration.

Her experience working with university leadership across campus, her ability to work with multiple volunteers and boards, and her strong endorsement as a leader and manager set her apart, Fischer notes.

Mary Landers retired as director of Alumni Engagement last summer. Beth Carlin has led the Alumni Engagement team in the interim.

“We’re merging the Advancement Communications team and Alumni Engagement team so we can better reach our 140,000 alumni and think about how we are both elevating the alumni message and using various channels to engage our alumni,” Fischer says. “Alumni engagement is, at its core, about communications. We’re excited these teams are joining, under one executive director, to strategically and efficiently create greater impact.”

Merheb’s official first day will be Monday, March 11.

“I am delighted and honored to be part of the Spartan community and to build on the teams’ work to meaningfully engage the alumni community,” she said. “I look forward to working with the dedicated members of the University Advancement team, the Alumni Leadership Board, volunteers and colleagues across campus who are committed to serving the students, alumni and friends of UNCG.”
